Travelling along the Golden Highway through Dunedoo, we stopped and reminisced at the Silo Art in the main street of the champions of the track, Hugh Bowman riding Winx and Chris Waller, Winx’s trainer. With a blue winter sky, studded with snow white clouds, the spectacle was beautiful.
We were lucky enough to watch Bowman ride Winx to a number of Spring Carnival races in Sydney and on this trip we stood in awe of the magnificent art work bringing tourists to this pretty town
Hugh Bowman is a Champion Australian horse jockey. He has ridden 99 group one winners, won the New South Wales Metropolitan Jockey Championship four times and was the jockey for Champion Race Horse Winx from 2014 until her retirement in 2019.
The boy from Dunedoo won the NSW Country Apprentice Champion in his first year of apprenticeship and then in 1999 and 2000 won the Sydney Apprentice Champion.
His first group one winner came in 2003 and he has been in the top echelon of Sydney jockey Championship. Last season he has ridden 120 winners.
The Champion racehorse Winx was foaled in September 2011 and between 2015 and her retirement in 2019, she won 33 consecutive races, including 25 group ones (a world record).
From 2016 to 2018 she was ranked number one as the world’s best horse racing mare. In 2018 she co-ranked as the worlds best horse. In 2015/2016 she was named Australian horse of the year.
Winx is now enjoying retirement as a brood mare
